Benbow became part of the Garberville Fire Protection District after voters approved Measure U in March 2023 (78.51% yes).
In 2022 the district said a Benbow station would be a priority once there was revenue, a site, and environmental review.
A Benbow station could provide a local base for an engine and volunteers.
2022: Benbow first recognized as a Firewise USA® site.
July 2022: Humboldt LAFCo approves the district's plan to bring Benbow and nearby areas into the district, conditional on voter approval of a special tax.
March 2023: voters pass Measure U.
November 2025: Benbow's 2026 to 2028 Firewise plan includes helping the district build an auxiliary station in Benbow.
