To keep Benbow's Firewise USA® recognition, our community's yearly investment has to equal the value of 202 volunteer hours, one for each home. Eligible spending counts too, and we also hold at least one education event a year.
What counts: clearing brush, weeds and dry grass; limbing or removing trees; cleaning roofs and gutters; chipping or hauling slash; vents and other home hardening; community workdays; and time at fire-safety meetings and workshops. Money you spend on this work counts too, including paying a contractor or tree crew.
Your entries go into Benbow's yearly tracker, which Benbow's volunteer coordinators and the County's Firewise coordinator use for our renewal. Nothing you enter is posted on this site.
